Great to read your report from SFJAZZ Festival, Nate. What I would give to hear that Lloyd rendition of Wilson’s “God Only Knows” or Akinmusire & Fortner on Oliver’s “West End Blues” or Holland/Loueke live on Shorter’s “United.”
Matt, you should consider getting a digital subscription - I believe it's only $60/year - to SFJazz. Since the pandemic, SFJazz has invested a lot in making very high quality videos of a number of performances. I don't know per se what's planned for SFJazz Festival performances, but I know, for example, that it has already premiered the recording of SFJazz Collective with Kurt Elling that was filmed at the festival.
By the way, I was at the Charles Lloyd performance and it was everything Nate says it was. Same goes for Fortner/Akinmusire and, especially, Rubalcaba/Clarke. All of those performances were off the charts beautiful. And, another one that was terrific was the Orrin Evans Trio.
I'm a long time SFJazz member. The Festival surpassed my expectations. Running into Nate Chinen in the lobby and having an opportunity to tell him how much I appreciate his insights - as well as the spirit he brings to his work - was an unexpected bonus!

Thanks for the recommendation, David. I will try it out!
